Capacity Building Project 2006-2009
PCI/BHI received a grant from the California Wellness Foundation to provide small grants and technical assistance to border health organizations in order to increase capacity, improve systems, service delivery and to assist the organizations in positioning themselves to establish strategic partnerships and collaboration with the ultimate aim of improving the health of border communities.
What is Capacity Building?
Capacity Building is a continuous participatory process of organizational self-discovery, which the BHI has been facilitating for a number of organizations along the California-Baja California border. Through the BHI’s Capacity Building program, the emphasis is placed on facilitating the application of new knowledge and skills acquired through numerous trainings sponsored by BHI.
This approach is applied to the priority areas of HIV/AIDS, TB, reproductive health and substance abuse, identifying key Capacity Building needs and opportunities where collaboration can leverage resources. Interventions are applied whenever possible to existing coalitions in order to increase reach, improve cost-effectiveness, and enhance potential for sustainability. The project will complement new funding received by the BHI from the California State Office of AIDS (OA).
